Case IH U111 – Universal Controller / Electronic Module: Position potentiometer value too high or the hitch is not lowered.

Code U111 indicates a calibration failure where the front hitch position potentiometer is reading a value that is too high, or the physical hitch has not been lowered. The underlying condition is an operator or mechanical sequence error during calibration: the system detected that the hitch was not fully lowered before the height limit control was changed from the ON to the OFF position.

   Verify Operator Sequence: Ensure that the operator is following the correct calibration sequence. The hitch must be fully lowered before the height limit control switch is moved from ON to OFF.

   Mechanical Inspection: Check the mechanical components of the front hitch system. Look for binding, debris, or physical damage preventing the hitch from lowering completely.

   Potentiometer Value Check: Enter the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu and observe the live value of the position potentiometer. If the value reads less than 10 during the automatic calibration procedure, the potentiometer is faulty and must be replaced.

   Clear the Area

   Ensure the front hitch has a completely unobstructed path to lower fully to the ground.

   Rerun Calibration

   Initiate the automatic front hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's command arm or instrument cluster.

   Follow Sequence Strictly

   When prompted by the system, ensure the hitch is completely lowered. Do not switch the height limit control from ON to OFF until the hitch has bottomed out physically.

   Monitor Sensor Output

   If the code U111 persists despite the hitch being physically lowered, or if the sensor value drops below 10, the sensor has failed internally (likely a dead spot in the variable resistor).

   Replace Sensor

   Unbolt the faulty hitch position potentiometer (typically a 3-pin, bolt-on sensor located on the hitch pivot arm) and disconnect the wiring harness. Install the new sensor.
