Case IH U113 – CCM (Central Control Unit): PTO speed select cable stalled while retracting
Issue description
The system detects that the mechanical cable responsible for selecting the PTO speed is failing to retract properly during operation or during a calibration routine.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Case IH Puma Series (115, 125, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
- Case IH Magnum / MX Series (MX180, MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285, Magnum 180-370)
- Case IH Maxxum Series
- Case IH Farmall Series
Check the cause
Inspect the PTO speed select cable at the rear PTO housing to ensure it is correctly connected and seated in the neutral position.
Manually inspect the routing of the PTO speed select cable for kinks, debris, or physical damage causing the cable to jam while retracting.
Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear PTO housing and ensure the wiring harness is intact and the 2-pin connector is securely plugged in.
Repair steps
Access the PTO Housing
Locate the PTO speed select cable and speed sensor at the rear of the tractor.
Adjust or Free the Cable
If the cable is disconnected or out of alignment, reconnect it and adjust it to the correct neutral position. Clear any debris causing it to jam.
Replace Faulty Components
If the cable is permanently kinked, stretched, or seized internally, remove and replace the PTO speed select cable. If the cable moves freely but the system still stalls (or if the sensor wiring is damaged), replace the PTO speed sensor.
Recalibrate the PTO
After adjusting or replacing the cable/sensor, you must perform a Two-speed PTO calibration. Connect the special diagnostic tool to the diagnostic connector and turn the key switch ON. Access the "H Menu" (HH MENU) on the tractor's dot matrix display. Run the PTO calibration routine so the CCM can relearn the cable's extension and retraction limits. (Note: Using the H8 command in this menu will clear all stored calibration values and fault codes, requiring a full recalibration of the subsystem).
