Case IH U126 – CCM (Central Control Module) or Transmission/PTO controller: No movement from position sensor

This is a calibration error code that occurs specifically during the 4-Speed Electronic Shiftable Rear Power Take-Off (ESPTO) calibration process. It indicates that the control module commanded the PTO shift actuator to move to a specific speed setting (e.g., 540, 540E, 1000, 1000E), but the PTO shift position sensor detected absolutely no physical movement.

   Verify calibration conditions: Ensure the PTO is completely turned OFF and transmission oil is at normal operating temperature (60 - 105 °C) before starting calibration.

   Check mechanical linkages: Inspect the PTO speed select cable and actuator linkage at the rear of the transmission for jams or incorrect connection in the neutral position.

   Inspect the wiring harness: Check the 3-wire connector at the PTO shift position sensor for a broken sensor ground wire, a missing 5V reference voltage, or a short to ground/5V on the signal wire.

   Check the speed select switch: Ensure the in-cab PTO speed selector switch is not faulty and is set to the correct position for the calibration step.

   Power Down

   Turn the ignition key switch to the OFF position to ensure the system is safe and to store any previous calibration values.

   Free Mechanical Binds

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a jammed PTO shift cable or actuator, clean, lubricate, or replace the mechanical linkage. Manually verify that the shift rail can move freely between the speed gears.

   Test/Replace the Sensor

   If the actuator moves but the controller cannot see the movement, disconnect the PTO shift position sensor. Use a multimeter to verify the 5V supply and ground from the CCM. If the wiring is good, remove and replace the PTO shift position sensor.

   Test/Replace the Actuator

   If the wiring is intact but the actuator itself refuses to move when commanded by the CCM, the shift actuator motor/solenoid has failed and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes and Recalibrate

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode. Use the "H8" menu to clear all stored calibration values and fault codes from the EEPROM.

   Run ESPTO Calibration

   Restart the 4-Speed ESPTO calibration. The system will cycle through the speed settings (1050, 2070, 3040, 3990) to learn the new sensor positions. When the lower central display shows "End", turn the key OFF to store the new values.
