Case IH U14 – Front Suspension Control Module: Open Circuit in Valve 31 (Lower Lockout) Solenoid
Issue description
The control module is sending a signal to the lower lockout solenoid on the front suspension valve block but is not detecting the expected electrical continuity, which prevents the hydraulic lockout feature from operating correctly.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to Valve 31 for breaks, chafing, or disconnected plugs
Verify connector placement to ensure that the connectors for Valve 30 (upper lockout) and Valve 31 (lower lockout) have not been accidentally swapped during previous maintenance
Test the resistance of the Valve 31 solenoid coil (designated as Y005 or Y006 on connector X508 or X671/X672) to determine if the internal coil has failed open
Repair steps
Safety First
Turn the ignition key switch OFF. Ensure the tractor is parked on a level surface, the engine is off, and all hydraulic pressure in the suspension circuits is relieved before working on the valves.
Locate the Valve
Locate the front suspension control valve block (typically mounted near the suspended front axle) and identify Valve 31 (the lower lockout solenoid).
Inspect and Repair Wiring
Disconnect the harness from the solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion or push-out. Trace the wiring harness back toward the central controller, looking for physical damage. Repair any broken wires.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring harness tests good (continuity from the controller to the plug) but the solenoid coil is open, remove the retaining nut/bolt on the solenoid coil and slide it off the valve stem. Install the new lockout solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.
Clear Fault Codes
Turn the ignition key switch ON. Access the tractor's diagnostic menu (via the instrument cluster or AFS Pro monitor). Navigate to the error code menu and clear the stored fault codes (on some models, this is done via the "H8" or "HC" menu operation to erase stored error codes).
Recalibrate
Perform a front suspension calibration to ensure the system recognizes the repaired circuit and sets the correct upper/lower limits.
