Case IH U156 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control module / UCM controller: Pilot head timed out
Issue description
Triggered during the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve calibration procedure because spool sliding movement was not detected or calibration messages from the control module were not detected.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Case IH Magnum
- Case IH Steiger
- Case IH Puma
- Case IH MX/TG series
Check the cause
Verify if the spool inside the valve body is physically moving or if it is mechanically stuck.
Check CAN BUS wiring by disconnecting one of the remote valve connectors and measuring resistance between terminals 2 and 3 (blue and red wires). It should be approximately 120 ohms. If not, trace and repair the wiring harness.
Ensure the pilot head is receiving calibration messages from the control module.
Repair steps
Disconnect electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty EHR pilot head.
Remove pilot head
Remove the pilot head from the top of the EHR valve slice.
Replace O-rings
Replace the O-rings between the slice and the pilot head.
Install new pilot head
Install the new pilot head.
Reassign Valve Addresses
After replacing the pilot head, you must reassign the valve addresses so the controller knows which in-cab lever controls that specific valve.
Calibrate the Valve
Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to perform the EHR valve calibration procedure to tune the valve for proper function.
