Case IH u157 – Auxiliary/Remote Valve Controller or Transmission/Vehicle Control Unit (VCU): Incorrect or inconsistent calibration values recorded during the calibration procedure
Issue description
This code triggers when the control module attempts to calibrate an electrohydraulic remote valve and the feedback values from the valve's transducer or pilot head are out of the expected range, erratic, or missing. It essentially means the system cannot successfully learn the valve's physical limits or neutral positions.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH Puma series
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH MX/TG series
Check the cause
Verify the calibration procedure was not interrupted by the operator (e.g., prematurely terminated by pressing the 'h' or 'm' buttons).
Ensure the specific remote valve lever (e.g., Lever No. 1, 2, or 3) is in the absolute neutral position before initiating the calibration.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the specific electrohydraulic remote valve (distributor EV) for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture.
Check for mechanical binding to ensure the valve spool is not physically stuck due to debris or hydraulic contamination.
Repair steps
Repeat Calibration
Clear the active codes and restart the rear electrohydraulic remote valve calibration procedure from the beginning, strictly following the on-screen prompts (ensuring correct engine speed and neutral lever positions).
Isolate the Valve
If the U157 code persists during the procedure, the system will usually indicate which specific valve failed (e.g., EV 8, EV 9, Distributor A, B, C, etc.).
Test the Transducer
Disconnect the harness from the failing valve and test the transducer circuit for proper voltage and continuity back to the control module.
Replace the Valve Section
If the wiring is intact and the calibration repeatedly fails with U157, the valve's internal sensors or pilot head have failed. The electrohydraulic remote valve section must be replaced.
Recalibrate
After installing the new valve section, run the calibration procedure again to marry the new valve to the control module and clear the U157 code.
