U16

Case IH U16 – CCM-LWB (Chassis Control Module - Long Wheel Base): Valve 30 (upper lockout) and Valve 31 (lower lockout) current sense inputs swapped

Issue description

The electronic control system has detected that the electrical current feedback signals for the upper and lower front suspension lockout solenoids are crossed. This almost always occurs when the wiring harness connectors for these two specific valves have been accidentally plugged into the wrong solenoids during previous maintenance, or if the harness was incorrectly repinned.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH Puma Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Case IH Magnum Series (290, 310, 315, 335, 340)
  • Case IH Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the keyswitch is OFF, the suspension ON/OFF switch is OFF, and the axle is fully lowered to the bottom mechanical stop to prevent sudden suspension drops and injury.

  2. Locate the front suspension lockout valve assembly (typically mounted near the large suspension accumulators).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness routing down to the lockout valves for obvious signs of damage, especially near the bottom of the fan shroud where poor routing can cause rubbing and shorts.

  4. Check the two connectors going to Valve 30 (Upper Lockout Solenoid) and Valve 31 (Lower Lockout Solenoid) to confirm if they have been swapped.

Repair steps

  1. Lower the Suspension

Ensure the front axle is fully lowered to its mechanical stops and the tractor is completely powered down.

  2. Access the Lockout Valves

Locate the lockout valve block on the front suspension assembly.

  3. Swap the Connectors

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from Valve 30 (upper lockout) and Valve 31 (lower lockout). Swap them to their correct respective solenoids.

  4. Repair Harness (If Necessary)

If the connectors were not physically swapped but the wires are damaged or were incorrectly repinned during a previous repair, repair the harness using OEM wiring specifications.

  5. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Power the tractor back on, clear the stored U16 fault code from the CCM, and perform the front suspension auto-calibration procedure to ensure the lockout valves are responding correctly to raise/lower commands.
