U17

Case IH U17 – Electronic Management System / Transmission Control Module (TCM): Open circuit in the front suspension pressure switch

Issue description

The control module is not receiving the expected electrical signal from the pressure switch, which monitors the hydraulic pressure in the front axle active suspension system. The underlying condition is typically a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or an internal failure of the switch itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma 115
  • Puma 125
  • Puma 145
  • Puma 155
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 180
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 225
  • Magnum MX210
  • Magnum MX230
  • Magnum MX255
  • Magnum MX285
  • Maxxum Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the front suspension pressure switch on the front axle hydraulic manifold for connector corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

  2. Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness for an open circuit between the pressure switch connector and the electronic control module

  3. Test the pressure switch for proper continuity to determine if the internal contacts have failed open

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and lower any implements. Ensure the front suspension is depressurized if you are removing hydraulic components.

  2. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic tests reveal a broken wire or damaged connector in the harness, splice in a new section of wire or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Replace the Switch (If Applicable)

If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the continuity test, unscrew the faulty front suspension pressure switch from the manifold. Install the new switch and tighten to the OEM torque specification.

  4. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness to the switch. Turn the ignition key ON and clear the stored fault codes from the EEPROM.

  5. Recalibrate

Enter the tractor's calibration menu and perform a Front Suspension Calibration cycle to ensure the module recognizes the new switch and the suspension travel range is properly set.

Parts you might need
