Case IH U175 – EPB (Electronic Park Brake) Controller: Active fault codes on EPB subsystem, calibration not possible

The Electronic Park Brake (EPB) controller is locked out of its calibration or reinitialization routine because there are other active, unresolved fault codes present within the EPB subsystem.

   Check Battery Voltage: Ensure batteries are fully charged and holding voltage, as a dead battery or severe voltage drop while sitting is the most common trigger.

   Scan for Underlying Codes: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's diagnostic display to read the EPB subsystem and identify/resolve other active codes (e.g., 12188, 12213).

   Inspect the EPB Switch & Wiring: Check the EPB shuttle park switch on the steering console, as well as its input/output wiring harness, for shorts or corrosion.

   Check Mechanical Linkage & Discs: Inspect the Bowden cable for stretching or binding, and check the brake rotors/discs and pads on the transmission input shaft for warping, sticking, or burning.

   Resolve Electrical Faults

   Fix any underlying electrical issues (dead batteries, faulty shuttle switches, or damaged wiring) and clear the active codes using the EST.

   Mechanical Adjustment

   If the Bowden cable has stretched, adjust the Bowden cable adjuster screw to eliminate play. If you run out of threads on the adjusting bolt, the cable is over-stretched or the internal brake pads are severely worn.

   Replace Worn Mechanical Components

   If the brake rotors/pads on the input shaft are sticking or burnt, the tractor will need to be split to replace the brake pads and rotors.

   Reinitialize the EPB (In-Cab Method)

   If the code was triggered simply by a dead battery, you can often reinitialize the system without a laptop: Hold both brake pedals down, release the hand brake, turn the key to the RUN position, place the shift lever in the neutral position, and press the Neutral button on the shifter handle to release the brake and reset the code.

   Perform Full EPB Calibration

   If mechanical parts were replaced, use the EST or the tractor's display menu to run the full 3-stage EPB calibration: Bedding In (1 initialization and 9 apply/release cycles), Mechanical Adjustment (adjusting the Bowden cable to eliminate play), and Validation (the system identifies the limit positions of the activation stroke).
