U18

Case IH U18 – Electronic Management System / ECU: Front suspension pressure switch short circuit

Issue description

The machine's electronic management system has detected a short circuit either within the wiring harness connected to the front suspension pressure switch or within the pressure switch itself. This is most commonly triggered during Front Suspension Calibration, Rear Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valves Calibration, or FPS Transmission Calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Puma Series (125, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Magnum Series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
  • Maxxum Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front suspension pressure switch for a short circuit (e.g., chafed wires touching the chassis or each other)

  2. Test the front suspension pressure switch with a multimeter to determine if it has failed and shorted internally

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and firmly apply the parking brake to prevent inadvertent movement during calibration procedures.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Ensure all pressure is relieved from the hydraulic circuits before removing any valves or switches.

  3. Locate and Disconnect

Locate the front suspension pressure switch on the hydraulic manifold/valve block and disconnect its electrical connector.

  4. Inspect and Repair Wiring

Visually inspect the wiring harness for damage, melting, or pinching. Use a multimeter to test for continuity to ground or a short between wires. Repair or replace the damaged section of the harness if a short is found.

  5. Test/Replace the Switch

If the wiring is intact, the pressure switch is likely internally shorted. Remove the faulty switch and install a new OEM replacement.

  6. Recalibrate

Turn the ignition key switch ON. Clear the stored fault codes from the EEPROM. Rerun the Front Suspension or EHR calibration procedure via the tractor's electronic management system to verify the repair.
