U2

Case IH U2 – Electronic Hydraulic Remotes (EHR) Controller: Flow Control For Lever 2 Set Incorrectly During Calibration

Issue description

This is a procedural error code that occurs during the calibration of the Electronic Hydraulic Remotes (EHR). It indicates that the flow control dial (potentiometer) for remote valve #2 was not physically set to the correct position (usually maximum flow) when the system expected it during the calibration sequence.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Puma
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Verify the physical position of the flow control dial for lever 2 to ensure it is turned to maximum flow during calibration.

  2. Perform the H5 Switch Test in the tractor's onboard diagnostics (H-Menu) to ensure the flow control potentiometer for lever 2 reads smoothly through its entire range.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the armrest controls and the EHR controller for broken wires or poor connections.

Repair steps

  1. Enter calibration mode

Enter the tractor's calibration mode (usually by holding the program key while turning the ignition to the ON position, then navigating to the ARM/EHR section on the A-post display).

  2. Navigate to EHR calibration

Navigate to the EHR calibration menu (often H1 in the H-Menu).

  3. Set flow control dial

When the system prompts you to calibrate lever 2, turn the flow control dial for lever 2 to the maximum flow position (indicated by the long bar on the dial).

  4. Pull lever 2

Pull lever 2 into the raise detent position as instructed by the display.

  5. Complete calibration

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the calibration sequence for the remaining levers, then turn off the key and wait 30 seconds before restarting the tractor to save the settings.

  6. Replace potentiometer if necessary

If the U2 code persists despite the dial being in the correct position, or if the H5 switch test showed erratic readings, the potentiometer inside the armrest lever is failing and must be replaced. Replace the potentiometer/encoder and repeat the calibration procedure.
