Case IH U26 – Transmission Control Module (Transmission ECU): Clutch pedal not fully raised or Clutch pedal not released

This fault code indicates that the transmission control system detects the clutch pedal is not in its fully upward (released) position. This code is most commonly triggered during transmission or clutch calibration procedures when the system expects the pedal to be fully released, but the sensor reading indicates it is still partially or fully depressed. It can be caused by operator error, mechanical binding, or a failed sensor.

   Verify that the operator's foot is completely off the clutch pedal during operation or calibration

   Inspect the physical clutch pedal linkage, return springs, and the potentiometer's articulation arm for sticking, binding, dirt buildup, or a broken linkage arm

   Access the tractor's diagnostic menu (H9 menu in the transmission module for MXM/Puma/Magnum models) to view live data input from the clutch potentiometer. Verify if the voltage/signal changes smoothly; a dead or erratic signal indicates a faulty sensor

   Clear Debris & Lubricate

   If the H9 diagnostic menu shows the sensor is working but not returning to zero, clean the clutch pedal pivot points and linkage. Lubricate the linkage to ensure the mechanical return spring can pull the pedal fully upward.

   Disconnect Power

   If the sensor or switch needs replacement, disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Locate the clutch potentiometer/switch assembly near the base of the clutch pedal linkage. Unplug the electrical harness connector.

   Dismount the Sensor

   Remove the mounting hardware securing the potentiometer and carefully detach its articulation arm from the clutch pedal linkage.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement potentiometer, reattach the articulation arm to the linkage, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Recalibrate the Transmission

   After replacing the clutch potentiometer, you must perform a full transmission/clutch calibration procedure so the Transmission ECU can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values for the pedal's travel. Ensure transmission oil is up to operating temperature (typically between 20°C and 100°C) before calibrating.
