Case IH U32 – Transmission Control Module (TCM / ECM): Hi/Lo synchronizer not engaged - Check synchronizer using the HD menu.

Triggered when the transmission control system commands a shift into the Hi or Lo range, but the synchronizer fails to physically engage or the system fails to detect the engagement.

   Check the HD Menu: Access the 'HD — HI/LO Synchronizer Operation' menu on the Central Display Unit (CDU) / instrument panel to monitor the live status of the synchronizer and verify if the ECM is sending/receiving the correct signals.

   Electrical Testing: Test the Forward (Hi-Lo) Synchronizer Solenoid for a short circuit.

   Electrical Testing: Inspect the wiring harness for shorts or breaks, specifically checking the circuit between ECM connector 1 (pin 16) and ECM connector 1 (pin 4), as well as across the two coil terminals.

   Mechanical Linkage Check: Inspect the external levers and relay rods for the gearbox. If they are incorrectly adjusted, it can cause difficulty engaging the gearbox or spontaneous disengagement.

   Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   For electrical failures.

   Locate the Forward (Hi-Lo) Synchronizer Solenoid on the transmission valve block.

   Repair or replace the affected section of the harness.

   If the wiring harness is damaged.

   Remove the retaining nut/clip, slide the old coil off the valve cartridge, and install a replacement solenoid coil.

   If the solenoid coil tests out of specification (shorted).

   Reconnect the battery, clear the stored error codes (using the HF menu or an Electronic Service Tool), and recalibrate the transmission clutches.

   Disconnect the battery and drain the transmission fluid.

   For mechanical failures (internal synchronizer replacement). Note: This requires a tractor split and transmission teardown.

   Split the tractor between the clutch housing and the gearbox.

   Remove the transmission/gearbox assembly and mount it on a rotating stand.

   Remove the top cover and shift forks (including the shuttle control fork and range gear control external rod).

    Disassemble the gearbox driven shaft to access the Hi/Lo synchronizer assembly.

    Remove the Hi-Lo synchronizer kit in the following order: hub, springs kit, selector sleeve, and synchro ring.

    Inspect the bevel pinion shaft and gears for shrapnel or excessive wear.

    Install the new synchronizer hub, springs, and selector sleeve.

    Apply sealing compound to the mating surfaces of the transmission casing upon reassembly.

    Reassemble the transmission, rejoin the tractor halves, refill with Case IH Akcela Nexplore fluid, and perform a full transmission calibration.
