Case IH U51 – Transmission Module: Engine speed error

The engine speed signal is either not being detected by the system, or the engine RPM is outside of the required parameters during a calibration procedure (such as a PTO twist sensor or clutch calibration). During calibration, the engine speed must be maintained strictly between 850 and 950 RPM.

   Verify that the engine speed is set between 850 and 950 RPM if the code was thrown during a calibration procedure

   Access the 'HE' menu function in the transmission module to see if the engine speed is actively being detected by the system

   Physically check if the engine speed sensor (motor speed sensor) is fitted and securely installed

   Check for an open circuit in the wiring harness running from the engine speed sensor to the instrument cluster

   Verify that the instrument cluster is fully powered

   Check for a broken CAN link or CAN bus error between the engine, cluster, and transmission modules

   Adjust Engine Speed (If Calibrating)

   If you are attempting a transmission or PTO calibration, adjust your hand throttle so the engine speed is exactly between 850 and 950 RPM. Clear the code and restart the calibration.

   Monitor Live Data

   If the code appears during normal operation, navigate to the HE menu on the transmission module display to check for a live RPM reading.

   Inspect the Sensor

   Locate the engine speed sensor on the engine block/flywheel housing. Ensure it is not loose, damaged, or covered in metallic debris.

   Test the Circuits

   Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to test the wiring continuity from the sensor connector to the instrument cluster. Repair any broken wires or corroded pins.

   Check Cluster Power & CAN

   Ensure the instrument cluster is receiving proper voltage. Test the CAN bus lines for continuity to rule out communication failures.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring, CAN bus, and cluster power are all intact but the transmission module still cannot detect engine speed in the HE menu, replace the engine speed sensor.
