Case IH U60 – Transmission Control Module (Transmission Controller / CFPS): Lever No.1 is not in Neutral

A calibration or operational error code indicating that the control system detects the lever is engaged (or its sensor is sending an out-of-neutral signal) when a strict neutral state is required, most commonly triggered when attempting to run an Auto Calibration Procedure (ACP), transmission calibration, or PTO calibration.

   Verify that Lever No.1 (Range lever) is physically shifted fully into the neutral detent.

   Inspect the mechanical gear linkage for the lever to see if it is out of adjustment, bent, or binding.

   Use the tractor's H-Menu (diagnostic mode) to check the live status of the switches by toggling the lever in and out of neutral.

   Inspect the electrical connector at the lever's neutral switch/potentiometer for damage, corrosion, or an open circuit between the lever and the transmission module.

   Secure the Tractor

   Park the tractor on level ground, turn off the engine, and engage the handbrake.

   Adjust the Linkage

   If the diagnostic checks reveal that the lever is not hitting the neutral switch, adjust the mechanical gear linkage according to the service manual specifications so that the lever's neutral detent aligns perfectly with the switch engagement point.

   Inspect and Clean Connections

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the Lever No.1 neutral switch/potentiometer. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and ensure the pins are tight and undamaged.

   Test/Replace the Switch

   Using a multimeter, test the switch for proper continuity when the lever is in the neutral position. If the switch fails to close/open correctly or the potentiometer has a dead spot, remove the faulty switch and install a new one.

   Re-run Calibration

   Once the switch is repaired or the linkage is adjusted, warm up the vehicle, ensure all levers (including Lever No.1) are in neutral, and repeat the calibration procedure (such as the transmission or ACP calibration) from the beginning. The U60 code should clear automatically once the module recognizes the neutral state.
