U62

Case IH U62 – Electronic Management System / Electronic Modules (Hitch Controller or Transmission Controller): Lever No. 2 not in neutral

Issue description

Triggered when the electronic management system detects that the second hydraulic or hitch control lever is not in its neutral position while a calibration procedure is being initiated or performed.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Case IH Puma Series: 140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX
  • Case IH Magnum Series: MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285
  • Case IH Farmall Series: 40, 45, 50, 115U
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that Lever No. 2 is physically sitting in the neutral detent position.

  2. Check the displayed potentiometer/sensor reading on the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool during calibration to see if the controller is actually receiving the "neutral" signal (neutral position values typically range from "nxxx" 250 to 350 depending on the model).

  3. If the lever is physically in neutral but the code persists, inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the Lever No. 2 position potentiometer/switch for short circuits or open circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

To prevent inadvertent movement of the tractor, firmly apply the parking brake and block the wheels (front and rear).

  2. Correct Lever Position

Move Lever No. 2 to the exact neutral position.

  3. Restart Calibration

Resume or restart the calibration procedure (e.g., Front Hitch Calibration or Transmission Calibration). The fault condition must be corrected before the adjustment can be performed.

  4. Test/Adjust Sensor

If the code will not clear, use a multimeter to test the lever's position potentiometer. Adjust the sensor mounting if it has slipped out of alignment.

  5. Replace Faulty Components

If the sensor is dead or the switch assembly has failed internally, replace the remote control valve switch assembly or potentiometer.

  6. Clear Codes

Once repaired, clear the stored fault codes from the EEPROM (e.g., using the H8 clear procedure on applicable models) and rerun the calibration.
