Case IH U68 – Transmission Controller: Creeper not engaged.
Issue description
The transmission control system requested the creeper gear to engage (either during normal operation or during a calibration routine), but the system did not detect successful engagement.

Check the cause
Check calibration status, especially if the secondary controller was recently replaced or the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) was cleared (using the H8 command).
Inspect the in-cab creeper engagement switch and its physical linkage/wiring for continuity and proper voltage output.
Inspect the creeper solenoid on the Transmission Control Valve (TCV) body for physical damage from field debris.
Ohm out the solenoid to check for an internal short or open circuit, and verify that the solenoid is receiving full power when the cab switch is engaged.
Perform the 'Hammer Test': If the solenoid is receiving power but not actuating, lightly tap the solenoid housing with a hammer to see if the internal spool valve is stuck.
Repair steps
Attempt Creeper Calibration
Start the engine. Press and hold the clutch and brake pedals down. Select Forward gear. Release the hand brake. Press the creeper switch. Slowly release the clutch pedal to start driving. The creeper icon should display on the dash.
Wiring and Switch Repair
If calibration fails, trace the wiring harness from the cab switch to the TCV solenoid. Repair any chafed wires or corroded connectors. If the cab switch fails a continuity test, replace the switch.
Solenoid Replacement
Clean the area around the Transmission Control Valve (TCV) to prevent contamination. Disconnect the electrical harness from the creeper solenoid. Unbolt and remove the faulty creeper solenoid valve from the lower plate of the TCV. Lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid and install them on the new solenoid. Install the new solenoid valve, torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the wiring harness. Top off transmission/hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the swap. Repeat the calibration procedure in Step 1 to clear the U68 code.
