Issue description

The MFA control module is receiving a voltage signal from the hand accelerator's position potentiometer that falls below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground, or a failed sensor. As a fail-safe response, the system renders the hand accelerator inactive.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the physical adjustment and internal resistance of the Hand Accelerator Potentiometer (R72)

  2. Ensure the MFA (A100) module is functioning and outputting the correct reference voltage

  3. Inspect the connectors and test the continuity of the wiring harness linking the R72 potentiometer to the MFA A100 module

  4. Check for any short-circuits (especially to ground, which causes low voltage) or open circuits

  5. Check the sources of energy, including fuses, sensor supply voltage, and ground connections

Repair steps

  1. Access the Components

    Power down the tractor and disassemble the armrest console to access the hand accelerator lever assembly and the MFA (A100) module.

  2. Visual Inspection

    Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the R72 potentiometer and the MFA module. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  3. Test Sensor Supply & Ground

    Disconnect the R72 potentiometer. Turn the ignition on and use a multimeter to verify that the MFA module is sending the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and providing a solid ground to the sensor connector.

  4. Test the Signal Circuit

    Check the signal wire between the R72 connector and the MFA module for continuity. Test the signal wire for a short to ground. Repair the wiring harness if a short or break is found.

  5. Test the Potentiometer (R72)

    If the wiring is intact, test the potentiometer itself. Measure the resistance sweep while moving the hand accelerator lever. The resistance (and resulting voltage) should change smoothly without dropping out or reading out of limits.

  6. Replace or Adjust

    If the potentiometer fails the sweep test or is physically damaged, replace it. If it is simply misaligned, adjust its mounting position.

  7. Module Verification

    If the sensor and wiring are perfectly fine, the fault may lie within the MFA (A100) module itself, requiring replacement or a software update/calibration via the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS).

  8. Clear Codes

    Reassemble the armrest, clear the fault codes, and test the hand accelerator to confirm the repair.
