Id7554h / 7554h

CLAAS Id7554h / 7554h – MFA (A100): The multifunction armrest does not receive the CAN message for backlighting and activation lamps.

Issue description

The multifunction armrest does not receive the CAN message for backlighting and activation lamps. As a fail-safe, the backlighting of the multifunction armrest is activated by default when this code is triggered.

Applies to these machines

  • CLAAS Axion 800 Series
  • CLAAS Arion 500 / 600 Series
  • CLAAS Axion 900 Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the integrity of the CAN bus lines (CAN High / CAN Low) for proper voltage and continuity.

  2. Ensure the CAN bus network communication module BDG (A103) is transmitting messages properly and is not logging its own CAN frame errors (such as Id7701h).

  3. Verify that the instrument panel module DBD (A101) is communicating on the network, as it plays a role in the backlighting circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Inspect the Wiring Harness

The most common physical failure point is the wiring harness connecting to the armrest. Wires can break internally near the plug due to repetitive movement. Pull gently on each wire near the connector; if a wire feels "stretchy" or the insulation breaks, there is an internal break that must be repaired.

  2. Check CAN Bus Voltages and Termination

Measure the CAN bus voltages at the armrest connector. You should see approximately 2.5V on the CAN High (yellow) and 2.4V on the CAN Low (green) lines. Verify that the CAN bus termination resistors are intact.

  3. Verify Module Status LEDs

Check the MFA (A100) circuit board (if accessible) for a green LED indicator. A flashing green light typically indicates that the module is receiving power and attempting to communicate.

  4. Test BDG (A103) and DBD (A101) Communication

Use the CLAAS METADIAG / CDS (CLAAS Diagnostic System) tool to check if the BDG and DBD modules are online. If the BDG module is offline, it cannot relay the backlighting CAN messages to the armrest.

  5. Repair or Replace

If the wiring harness is intact and the CAN bus network is healthy, the fault lies within the internal circuitry of the MFA (A100) module, the BDG (A103) module, or the DBD (A101) module. Replace the faulty module and clear the codes.

Listed as CLAAS electrical box BDG

  • CLAAS MFA A100 Module

Specific part number depends heavily on the exact tractor model and CEBIS/CIS configuration; refer to the CLAAS Component Number "CCN A100" in the parts catalog. Note: Specialized agricultural electronics repair shops offer rebuild services for the Arion/Axion armrest if a new replacement is cost-prohibitive.
