CLAAS Id7556h / 7556h – MFA (A100) - Multifunction Armrest Module: The multifunction armrest no longer emits the message over the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus due to too many CAN error frames over the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus.

Issue description

The CAN controller inside the armrest module has detected an excessive number of communication errors (error frames) on the network. To protect the rest of the vehicle's network from being flooded with corrupted data, the module forces itself into a "Bus Off" state and stops transmitting messages. Symptoms: The multifunction armrest becomes completely inactive. The transmission maintains the current gear it was in when the fault occurred. After restarting the tractor, the transmission enters a degraded/limp mode where only gears C1 and B1 are available, depending on the selected work/transport mode.

Check the cause

  1. Check the MFA (A100) Armrest Multifunction Module: Inspect the physical module and its main harness connector for loose pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion.

  2. Check the CLAAS Vehicle CAN Bus Network: Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to voltage. Verify the CAN bus terminating resistors are intact (typically reading ~60 ohms across the network with the battery disconnected).

  3. Check the BDG (A103) Module: Inspect the CAN network communication module, as network-wide frame errors can sometimes originate here.

  4. Check the DBD (A101) Module: Inspect the instrument panel module/dashboard, which acts as a primary node on this specific CAN network.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to safely test the CAN network.

  2. Wiring Inspection

    Access the wiring harness leading into the A100 Multifunction Armrest. Check for chafed wires where the harness routes through the seat suspension and armrest pivot points, as movement here frequently causes CAN wire damage.

  3. Network Testing

    Using a multimeter, probe the CAN pins at the A100 connector. Verify proper resistance and ensure there is no short to ground or power.

  4. Module Isolation

    If the wiring is intact, the internal CAN transceiver of the A100 module has likely failed.

  5. Replacement

    Remove the mounting screws securing the MFA (A100) module to the armrest console. Disconnect the harness and install the replacement module.

  6. Software Calibration

    Connect the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS). The new A100 module may require a parameter set update or software flash to match the tractor's specific configuration (e.g., CEBIS vs. CIS, HEXASHIFT vs. CMATIC).

  7. Clear Codes & Test

    Clear the Id7556h fault code. Restart the tractor and verify that full gear selection (beyond C1/B1) is restored and the armrest functions normally.
