CLAAS Id75F8h / 75F8h (357) – TR1 (A57-1): Short circuit on range D sensor.

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected a short circuit in the electrical circuit of the sensor/switch responsible for monitoring the engagement of "Range D" inside the transmission. The transmission relies on this sensor to confirm that the mechanical shift fork and synchronizer have successfully moved into the Range D position.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the Range D engaged switch (designated as Z156 or Z153-4).

  2. Check the connectors and the continuity of the wiring harness linking the TR1 (A57-1) module to the Range D sensor. Look for chafed wires causing a short-circuit to ground or a short-circuit to 12V power.

  3. Check the internal resistance of the Range D sensor using a multimeter to verify if the sensor itself is internally shorted.

  4. Check for a possible mechanical problem on the range module, such as a damaged synchronizer or shift fork failing to actuate the switch properly or physically damaging the sensor tip.

  5. Ensure the Range D solenoid valve (designated as Y309 or Y339-4) is operating correctly and not leaking fluid into the electrical connectors.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower any implements, and turn off the battery master switch to protect the TR1 module.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Access the side of the transmission housing where the range shift module is located. Identify the Range D engaged switch (Z156 / Z153-4).

  3. Inspect the Connector

    Unplug the sensor. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or transmission fluid ingress (which can cause a short).

  4. Isolate the Short

    With the sensor unplugged, turn the battery master switch back on and use a multimeter to check the harness-side connector. If the short circuit is still present on the signal wire going back to the TR1 (A57-1) module, the wiring harness must be repaired. If the short disappears, the sensor is the culprit.

  5. Replace the Sensor

    If the sensor is internally shorted, unscrew it from the transmission housing. Install the new sensor and torque it to the manufacturer's specification.

  6. Reassembly & Calibration

    Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the ignition and use the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) or the onboard CIS/CEBIS terminal to clear the fault codes.

  7. Test Drive

    Perform a test drive, shifting through all ranges (A, B, C, and D) to ensure the transmission shifts smoothly and the code does not return.
