CLAAS Id765Ch / 765Ch (461) – TR2 (A57-2): Limitation of the Claas Power Management caused by the coolant temperature too high 105 °C < T° < 113 °C.

Issue description

The engine coolant temperature has exceeded the safe operating threshold (reaching between 105 °C and 113 °C). As a protective system response, the CLAAS Power Management system actively restricts additional power (Power Boost) to prevent severe engine damage from overheating.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical cooling system for low coolant levels, blocked radiators, or a failing water pump/thermostat

  2. Check the Coolant Temperature Sensor (B045) for accurate readings

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the coolant temperature sensor (B045) to the Engine Control Module (ECM - A015) for short circuits, open circuits, or poor contact

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Shut off the engine immediately and allow it to cool down to prevent severe burns from pressurized hot coolant.

  2. Visual & Physical Inspection

    Inspect the radiator and cooling packages for dirt, chaff, or debris. Clean the radiator thoroughly if obstructed.

  3. Check Coolant Levels

    Verify the coolant level in the expansion tank. If it is low, inspect the system for leaks (hoses, water pump, radiator) and refill with the specified coolant.

  4. Test the Sensor (B045)

    Locate the engine coolant temperature sensor (B045). Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion. Use a multimeter to test the sensor's resistance. If the resistance values are out of specification or the sensor is shorted to ground/power, it has failed.

  5. Test the Harness

    Check the continuity of the wiring harness between the B045 sensor and the A015 ECM. Repair any broken wires or shorts.

  6. Replace Faulty Components

    If the sensor is faulty, remove it and install a replacement, torquing it to the manufacturer's specification (typically around 1.5 daN.m for CLAAS sensors).

  7. Clear Codes and Test

    Use the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) to clear the fault codes. Run the tractor under load to ensure the temperature remains within the normal operating range and that the Power Management system restores full power.
