CLAAS Id7689h / 7689h (510) – TR3 (A57-3) Transmission Module: Clutch time of the PTO too high

The tractor's control system has detected that the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch is taking an abnormally long time to engage, disengage, or is slipping under load. The system logs this code because "The PTO continues running in poor conditions".

   Check the rear PTO speed sensor (B142)

   Check the engine speed / engine speed sensor

   Check the rear PTO solenoid valve (Y325)

   Check the steering pressure (which supplies the low-pressure hydraulic circuit for the clutch)

   Check the rear PTO clutch (mechanical condition)

   Check the Powertrain CAN bus network

   Test the 'Auto 5' module using CLAAS special tool n° 60 05 033 249

   Read and Verify Data

   Connect the METADIAG or CDS (CLAAS Diagnostic System) to verify the active fault code Id7689h. Check the live sensor data to confirm the readings from the rear PTO speed sensor (B142) and the engine speed sensor.

   Inspect Sensors and Wiring

   Check the B142 PTO speed sensor for drift, vibration damage, or moisture in the connector. Without accurate feedback, the ECU cannot properly time the engagement.

   Solenoid Activation Test

   Test the rear PTO solenoid valve (Y325). Verify the electrical current and response. Ensure there are no short or open circuits in the solenoid's supply harness.

   Hydraulic Pressure Test

   Measure the clutch engagement pressure (steering pressure / low-pressure circuit). If the pressure is too low, the clutch will slip and take too long to engage. Perform a valve leakage test to confirm the source of any pressure loss.

   Test the Control Module

   Use the CLAAS breakout/diagnostic tool n° 60 05 033 249 to test the "Auto 5" / TR3 module. If the module is internally faulty and failing to command the clutch properly, change it as required.

   Inspect/Rebuild the PTO Clutch

   If the electronics, sensors, and hydraulic pressures are all within specification, the fault is mechanical. The rear PTO clutch pack discs are likely worn thin, which increases the required pressure and time to engage. The clutch pack will need to be rebuilt or replaced.
