CLAAS Id76E8h / 76E8h (637) – SFA (A102) - Front Axle Suspension Module: Open circuit, short-circuit to ground of the suspension’s right-hand position sensor.

Issue description

The system detects that the signal from the right-hand front axle suspension position sensor is either missing (open circuit) or shorted to ground. As a safety and operational response, the system will lock the non-functional suspension in its current position, and the operator may be prompted to drive at a reduced speed.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Right-Hand (RH) suspension position sensor (B234-1).

  2. Check the wiring harness connecting the B234-1 sensor to the SFA (A102) module for physical damage, chafing, or breaks.

  3. Verify no short-circuit to ground on the sensor's signal wire and ensure correct supply voltage (8Vdc or 12Vdc).

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Locate the RH front axle suspension position sensor (B234-1) mounted on the right side of the front axle suspension cylinder/linkage.

  2. Disconnect and Inspect

Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Test the Circuit

Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the wiring from the sensor connector back to the A102 Front Axle Suspension Module. Test the signal wire for continuity to ground to rule out a short.

  4. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring is intact and the module is outputting the correct reference voltage, the sensor itself has failed internally. Unbolt the faulty sensor and install the replacement.

  5. Calibrate

After replacing the position sensor, a calibration of the front axle suspension system may be required using the CLAAS CDS (CLAAS Diagnostic System) tool to ensure the module learns the new sensor's travel limits.
