CLAAS Id76F1h / 76F1h – BDG (A103): No message was transmitted by the SFA module although the configuration indicates its presence

Issue description

The tractor's configuration is programmed to expect data from the Suspended Front Axle (SFA) module over the Powertrain CAN bus. However, the gateway module is not receiving any data frames from it. As a safety response, the system locks the front axle suspension in its current position.

Check the cause

  1. Check the continuity of the harnesses linking the components on the Powertrain CAN bus network for open circuits, short-circuits to ground, or short-circuits to 12V.

  2. Check the sources of energy (fuses, power supply, and ground) to the SFA (A102) suspended axle module.

  3. Verify the connectors and wiring at the CAN network communication module BDG (A103).

  4. Check the compatibility of program versions, settings, and calibration to ensure the tractor hasn't been misconfigured to look for an SFA module if one was removed or bypassed.

Repair steps

  1. Visual Inspection

Locate the SFA (A102) module and inspect its main wiring harness connector. Look for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or water ingress.

  2. Power and Ground Test

Using a multimeter, verify that the SFA (A102) module is receiving proper operating voltage (12V) and has a clean ground connection. If power is missing, trace the circuit back to the fuse panel.

  3. CAN Bus Test

Measure the resistance across the Powertrain CAN bus (CAN High to CAN Low) with the battery disconnected. It should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, there is an open circuit or a missing terminating resistor.

  4. Harness Repair

If a broken wire or short is found in the Powertrain CAN bus between the SFA (A102) and BDG (A103), repair the wiring harness.

  5. Module Replacement

If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN lines are all intact, the SFA (A102) module has likely suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

  6. Post-Repair

Clear the fault codes via the Cebis terminal or diagnostic tool and test drive the tractor to ensure the front axle suspension resumes active damping.
