CLAAS Id76F3h / 76F3h – BDG (A103): No message was transmitted by the EXT module although the configuration indicates its presence.

Issue description

When this code is triggered, the external function module (EXT) and its associated functions become inactive. The system expects to see the EXT module on the CAN bus based on the tractor's configuration, but it is failing to communicate.

Applies to these machines

  • CLAAS Axion 800 Series
  • Axion 810
  • Axion 850
  • CLAAS Axion 900 Series
  • Axion 960
  • CLAAS Arion 500 / 600 Series
  • Arion 510
  • Arion 640
  • CLAAS Xerion Series
  • Xerion 3300
  • Xerion 3800

Check the cause

  1. Check the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus network: Ensure there are no communication disruptions on the broader network

  2. Check the EXT terminal module (A62): Verify its physical condition and connections

  3. Check the CAN network communication module BDG (A103): Ensure the bridge module is operating correctly

  4. Check wiring and connectors: Inspect the continuity of the harnesses linking the EXT and BDG components

  5. Check for electrical faults: Test for any short-circuits or open circuits on the CAN lines

  6. Check energy sources: Verify the power supply (12V), fuses, and ground connections to the EXT module

  7. Check software: Verify the compatibility of program versions, settings, and calibration

Repair steps

  1. Visual Inspection

Locate the EXT (A62) module and the BDG (A103) module. Inspect the wiring harness routing between them for chafing, pinch points, or melted insulation.

  2. Connector Pin Check

Disconnect the harnesses at the EXT (A62) module. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals. Clean and reseat if necessary.

  3. Power and Ground Test

Using a multimeter, verify that the EXT (A62) module is receiving proper operating voltage (12V) and has a clean, low-resistance path to ground. Replace any blown fuses and repair damaged power/ground wires.

  4. CAN Bus Testing

Measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins to ensure the network is intact (typically 60 ohms if both terminating resistors are present). Check for shorts to ground or shorts to power on the CAN lines.

  5. Module Replacement

If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN lines all test perfectly, the EXT (A62) module has likely suffered an internal failure and must be replaced. (In rare cases, if the EXT module is proven good, the BDG (A103) module may be failing to process the messages and would require replacement).

  6. Calibration

After replacing the EXT module, program and calibrate the new module to the tractor's configuration using the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS). Clear the fault codes and test operation.
