CLAAS Id7702h / 7702h – BDG (A103): Short-circuit to the 12V on the Powertrain CAN bus
Issue description
One of the communication lines on the Powertrain CAN network is improperly receiving 12 volts of power, likely due to a wiring fault, chafing, or an internal short within a connected module. This condition disrupts communication between critical drivetrain components.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- CLAAS Arion 500 / 600 Series
- CLAAS Axion 800 Series
Check the cause
Inspect the physical wiring harness for the Powertrain CAN bus for any signs of chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could bridge the CAN lines to a 12V power source.
Inspect the BDG (A103) module and its connectors for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.
Verify the continuity of the harnesses linking each component on the Powertrain CAN bus.
Verify all relevant fuses, power supplies, and ground connections for the CAN network and the BDG module.
Repair steps
Document codes
Note all error codes present on the tractor via the CEBIS display or CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) / METADIAG tool. Analyze the interaction between these codes, as a short on the CAN bus often triggers multiple communication loss codes (e.g., Id76FAh, Id76FBh).
Isolate the short
Disconnect modules on the Powertrain CAN bus one by one (such as the Engine ECU, Transmission modules TR1/TR2/TR3, etc.) while monitoring the voltage on the CAN lines with a multimeter. If the 12V short disappears when a specific module is unplugged, that module has an internal short.
Repair wiring
If the short remains with modules unplugged, trace the Powertrain CAN bus wiring harness to locate the physical short to 12V. Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Replace the BDG module
If the wiring is intact and the short is isolated to the BDG (A103) module itself, replace the module.
Clear and retest
Clear all error codes using the diagnostic tool. Test drive the tractor to ensure the anomaly does not reappear and that normal Powertrain CAN communication is restored.
Parts you might need
