CLAAS 770Ch – ITE (ISOBUS) module: ITE Module Communication Failure

Issue description

The system detects a loss of communication with the ITE (ISOBUS) module on the CAN bus network. This fault is triggered when no message is received from the ITE module for a continuous period of five seconds. A communication failure disrupts functions managed by or dependent on the ISOBUS module, which typically handles communication with implements and attachments.

Applies to these machines

  • Arion 400
  • Arion 500
  • Arion 600
  • Arion 650-530
  • Axion 800
  • Axion 900
  • Axion 960

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the ITE/ISOBUS module and the main vehicle CAN bus for chafing, corrosion, pinched wires, or loose connections.

  2. Verify that the ITE module has a stable power supply and a solid ground connection, as low battery voltage can cause communication faults across multiple modules.

  3. Perform a CAN bus resistance check with the machine's power off. Measure resistance across CAN High and CAN Low (should be approximately 60 Ohms; a reading of 120 Ohms indicates an open circuit or missing terminating resistor).

  4. Perform a CAN bus voltage check with power on but the network idle. Measure DC voltage relative to ground (CAN High should be 2.5-3.0V, CAN Low should be 2.0-2.5V). Voltages outside this range indicate a faulty transceiver.

Repair steps

  1. Rectify physical layer issues

Repair or replace any faulty wiring, connectors, power, or ground components identified during the diagnostic checks. This resolves the most common causes of CAN bus errors.

  2. Isolate the faulty module

If wiring and network integrity are confirmed good, disconnect other modules on the same CAN bus one by one to see if communication with the ITE module is restored.

  3. Check and replace ITE module

Check specific connections to the ITE module. If the fault persists and points towards the ITE module itself, replace the module.

  4. Use CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS)

Connect the CDS to read fault codes from all modules, view live data, and perform system tests to pinpoint the communication issue (e.g., checking the VDC gearbox management module or DSB instrument panel module).

  5. Reprogram or reconfigure

If the communication error is caused by a software or configuration issue, use the CDS to reprogram or reconfigure the relevant control modules.

  6. Contact dealer

If the error persists after these steps, contact a CLAAS service partner for advanced diagnostics.
