Id7710h / 7710h (190 00)

CLAAS Id7710h / 7710h (190 00) – ENG (A15): Extreme engine overspeed. The fuel supply of the common rail by the high pressure pump is off.

Issue description

The engine RPM has exceeded the maximum safe operating threshold (extreme overspeed). To protect the engine from catastrophic mechanical failure, the Engine ECU has intervened by commanding the high-pressure fuel pump to shut off the fuel supply to the common rail, effectively cutting fuel to the injectors.

Check the cause

  1. Operator Interview: Determine the operating conditions when the fault occurred. Extreme overspeed is most commonly caused by the operator downshifting at too high a ground speed, or by a heavy implement pushing the tractor down a steep grade, forcing the engine past its governed RPM limit.

  2. Check for Runaway Conditions: If the operator did not mechanically over-rev the engine, inspect the intake manifold and turbocharger. A turbocharger leaking oil into the intake can act as an uncontrolled fuel source, causing a diesel engine runaway.

  3. Sensor Plausibility: Check the engine speed sensors (B228-1 and B228-2) and their wiring harnesses. An erratic signal, short circuit, or open circuit in the speed sensor wiring can trick the ECU into falsely reading an extreme overspeed condition.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Since this is often an operational fault, connect the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) or use the onboard CEBIS terminal to note the error code, clear it from the memory, and test drive the tractor to see if the anomaly returns under normal operation.

  2. Inspect Wiring

If the code returns immediately or intermittently without actual overspeeding, inspect the connectors and continuity of the harnesses linking the engine speed sensors to the ENG (A15) module. Look for chafed wires or poor pin tension.

  3. Test the Sensor

Check the resistance of the engine speed sensor. If the sensor is reading out of specification or has failed internally, it must be replaced.

  4. Mechanical Inspection

If a runaway condition is suspected, remove the charge air cooler piping and inspect for excessive oil pooling. If the turbocharger seals have failed, the turbocharger must be replaced and the intercooler flushed before restarting the engine.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Engine Speed Sensor / RPM Sensor (Crankshaft/Camshaft Position)

    0281002808

Bosch direct OEM supplier part. Mounts to the engine block/flywheel housing to read engine RPM.

  • Turbocharger

    RE571813

BorgWarner S200. Required if the turbocharger is found to be leaking oil and causing a runaway.
