CLAAS 7737h – Eng A15: Fuel Temperature Moderately High

Issue description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the fuel temperature has exceeded a predefined threshold, but not to a critical level. The fuel temperature sensor monitors this data so the ECM can adjust the air-fuel mixture and ignition timing to compensate for warmer, less dense fuel. While this code indicates a moderately high temperature reading, it can lead to poor fuel economy, rough idling, reduced engine power, or difficulty starting if the condition persists or if the sensor is providing inaccurate data.

Applies to these machines

  • Axion 810
  • Axion 820
  • Axion 830
  • Axion 840
  • Axion 850
  • Arion 510
  • Arion 640
  • Celtis

Check the cause

  1. Verify the fault using a diagnostic tool to confirm 7737h is active or stored, and check for related codes (such as DTC 7735 for high voltage, which points to a circuit issue)

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the fuel temperature sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose connections

  3. Check for external heat sources near the fuel lines and fuel tank, such as a malfunctioning hydraulic component or an exhaust leak

  4. Test the fuel temperature sensor (thermistor) by measuring resistance across its terminals and comparing it to manufacturer specifications (e.g., using an ice water test at 33°F/0°C)

  5. Check the voltage signal from the sensor at the ECU to rule out a circuit high condition

Repair steps

  1. Relieve fuel pressure

Safely relieve the pressure in the fuel system to prevent spills before disconnecting any lines.

  2. Locate and disconnect sensor

Locate the fuel temperature sensor (designated as B44), typically found on the fuel rail, fuel filter housing, or high-pressure pump. Disconnect its electrical connector.

  3. Remove old sensor

Carefully remove the sensor from its mounting point, being prepared to catch any residual fuel leakage.

  4. Install new sensor

Install the replacement fuel temperature sensor, ensuring it is properly seated and tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.

  5. Reconnect and prime

Reconnect the electrical connector and prime the fuel system to restore operating pressure.

  6. Clear Fault Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 7737h fault code from the engine module's memory.

  7. Verify the Repair

Start the engine and let it run to operating temperature. Re-scan for fault codes to ensure the issue is resolved. Monitor the live fuel temperature data to confirm it is within the normal range.
