CLAAS Id7742h / 7742h (636 05) – ENG (A15) - Engine Control Module: Intensity of the position sensor of the high pressure pump low.

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit has detected that the electrical current or signal voltage from the high-pressure fuel pump's position sensor (B232) is below the minimum expected threshold, indicating high resistance, an open circuit, or a failing sensor. The engine compensates by using the crankshaft position sensor, but may experience extended cranking times and reduced power.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of the high-pressure pump position sensor (B232).

  2. Check the connectors and the continuity of the wiring harness linking the B232 sensor to the ENG (A15) engine module.

  3. Test the circuit for any open circuits or short-circuits to ground.

  4. Verify the 5V reference supply voltage to the sensor and check the sensor's internal resistance against OEM specifications.

  5. Ensure the ENG (A15) engine module is outputting the correct reference voltage and is not suffering from a pin or connector failure.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts. Allow the engine to cool.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the B232 high-pressure pump position sensor. It is mounted on the engine timing cover near the high-pressure fuel pump pinion.

  3. Clear the Area

Remove any brackets or covers obstructing access to the timing cover.

  4. Disconnect Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the B232 sensor. Remove the bolts securing the clamps on the wiring harness for the sensor to free up the line.

  5. Remove the Sensor

Remove the mounting bolt(s) securing the position sensor to the timing cover. Pull the sensor straight out of its bore.

  6. Install the New Sensor

Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean engine oil. Insert the new sensor into the timing cover and tighten the mounting bolt to the specified torque.

  7. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness, secure the harness clamps, and restore any covers removed during disassembly.

  8. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes from the ENG (A15) module using a diagnostic tool, and test-start the engine to ensure the extended cranking symptom is resolved and the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • High Pressure Pump Position Sensor / Timing Position Sensor (B232)

Mounts directly to the timing cover/high-pressure pump assembly. Always replace the sealing O-ring when installing a new sensor to prevent oil leaks. Crosses over to John Deere RE-series part numbers depending on exact engine serial.
