CLAAS Id7748h / 7748h (637 06) – Engine Module ENG (A15): Intensity of the crankshaft position sensor high.

The Engine Control Unit detects an abnormally high electrical current (low resistance) on the crankshaft position sensor circuit. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within the sensor itself. The engine will continue to run normally without considering the information delivered by the sensor in error, relying instead on the camshaft/high-pressure pump position sensor to determine engine timing.

   Inspect the Crankshaft Position Sensor (Component ID: B231) for physical damage or internal electrical shorts

   Check the Engine Module ENG (A15) to ensure the module's connector pins are clean and seated properly

   Test the wiring harness between the B231 sensor and the A15 Engine Module for a short to ground

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the crankshaft position sensor (B231) on the engine block.

   Inspect the Wiring

   Disconnect the sensor and carefully inspect the wiring harness leading back to the ENG (A15) module. Look for rubbed-through insulation or pinched wires causing a short to ground.

   Test the Sensor

   Use a multimeter to test the internal resistance of the crankshaft position sensor. If the resistance is out of specification (indicating an internal short), the sensor is faulty.

   Repair/Replace

   If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the shorted section. If the harness tests fine but the sensor is shorted, replace the crankshaft position sensor (B231).

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the sensor, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool (such as CLAAS Metadiag) to clear the Id7748h / 637 06 fault code from the ENG (A15) module.

   Verify Repair

   Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that engine timing synchronization is restored.
