CLAAS Id774Fh / 774Fh (641 16) – ENG (A15) - Engine Module: Temperature of the turbocharger actuator averagely high.

Issue description

The internal printed circuit board (PCB) of the turbocharger's Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) actuator is overheating. This can be caused by a failure in the actuator's cooling circuit, missing/damaged heat shields, restricted airflow, or excessive Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

Applies to these machines

  • CLAAS Arion series (e.g., Arion 640-510)
  • CLAAS Axion series (e.g., Axion 850, Axion 800)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the cooling circuit of the actuator (if the specific model's actuator is liquid-cooled)

  2. Verify the presence and structural integrity of the heat shields surrounding the turbocharger and actuator

  3. Check for restricted airflow or excessive EGR operation, which can artificially elevate temperatures around the VGT actuator

  4. Inspect the Turbocharger Actuator (M37) and the turbocharger assembly itself for mechanical binding or damage

  5. Verify the wiring connections to the Engine Module ENG (A15)

Repair steps

  1. Visual & Physical Inspection

Resolve any external issues causing the overheating. Replace missing heat shields, clear airflow restrictions, and repair the actuator cooling lines if applicable.

  2. Actuator Replacement

If the internal PCB of the actuator is permanently damaged from overheating, the VGT actuator (M37) must be replaced.

  3. Electronic Calibration

If the VGT actuator (M37) is replaced with a new unit, it is mandatory to perform an electronic calibration using the CLAAS CDS (Computer Diagnostic System) software.

  4. Clear Codes

After calibration, clear the fault codes via the CLAAS CAN Bus network. If power remains restricted, an ENG (A15) module reset/recalibration may be required.
