CLAAS Id776Fh / 776Fh (1136 16) – ENG (A15) Engine Module: Temperature of the engine module averagely high / ECU temperature ABOVE NORMAL (>115°C)
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is physically overheating due to inadequate cooling of the area around the ECU. The critical fault state triggers when the module's internal temperature reaches 125°C, causing the engine calculator to automatically reduce engine speed by 600 rev/min and strictly limit the maximum engine speed to 1,200 rev/min.

Check the cause
Check the physical ENG (A15) engine module.
Inspect the area immediately surrounding the ECU for inadequate cooling, looking for heavy accumulations of field debris, chaff, mud, or dust that might be acting as an insulator and preventing the module's heat sink from dissipating heat.
Verify that the tractor's primary cooling system (radiator, viscous fan) is operating correctly, as excessive ambient under-hood temperatures will cause the ECU to overheat.
Repair steps
Clean the ECU Housing
Locate the ENG (A15) module on the engine block or firewall. Carefully clear away any dirt, crop debris, or grease buildup from the module's cooling fins and the surrounding area.
Restore Airflow
Ensure that any heat shields or airflow deflectors designed to route cooling air over the ECU are intact and not bent or missing.
Restart the Machine
Once the module has cooled below the threshold, restart the tractor. The derate protocol (1,200 rev/min limit) is designed to clear automatically and return to normal engine speed availability.
ECU Testing
If the module is completely clean and cool to the touch but still logs code 1136 16, the ECU's internal temperature sensor has likely failed. The ENG (A15) module will need to be sent to a specialist for internal repair, or replaced entirely.
Clear Codes
Connect a CLAAS CDS (Computer Diagnostic System) or a compatible aftermarket tool to the CLAAS CAN Bus network to perform a DTC reset and clear the historical fault.
Parts you might need

OEM part numbers are highly specific to the exact tractor model, engine manufacturer, and machine serial number. If replaced, it will require programming and calibration to the tractor's Powertrain CAN bus and CLAAS Sequence Management (CSM) system.
