CLAAS Id7817h / 7817h – HYD (A60): Front lifting position sensor fault

Issue description

The system has detected that the harness of the front lifting position sensor is damaged, the position sensor itself is faulty, or there is a voltage/supply issue on the level of the supply harness. This typically causes the tractor to lock out or restrict front linkage functions.

Applies to these machines

  • Axion 800 series
  • Axion 810
  • Axion 820
  • Axion 840
  • Axion 850
  • Arion 400 series
  • Arion 410
  • Arion 420
  • Arion 430
  • Arion 500 series
  • Arion 510
  • Arion 600 series
  • Arion 640

Check the cause

  1. Check the connectors and the continuity of the wiring harness linking the front lifting position sensor to the HYD (A60) module

  2. Test the supply harness for any short-circuits to ground, short-circuits to power, or open circuits

  3. Verify the sources of energy (fuses, supply voltage, and ground connections) reaching the sensor

  4. Check the internal resistance of the position sensor to see if it falls outside of standard operating specifications

  5. Check the component's operating conditions (e.g., mechanical seizing of the linkage, physical damage to the sensor arm/rod, or heavy debris interfering with the sensor's movement)

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the front linkage to the ground (if possible) to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Inspect the Sensor

Locate the front linkage position sensor at the front hitch assembly. Inspect the sensor, its linkage rod, and the immediate wiring pigtail for physical damage or corrosion.

  3. Test the Wiring

Using a multimeter, perform a continuity and voltage test from the sensor connector back to the HYD (A60) module.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If a break or short is found in the supply harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring or replace the harness segment.

  5. Replace the Sensor (If Applicable)

If the wiring and voltage supply are intact but the sensor fails the resistance test or the code persists, the sensor is internally faulty. Unbolt the faulty sensor, disconnect the linkage rod, and install the new sensor.

  6. Calibration

After replacing the sensor or repairing the harness, you must calibrate the front linkage position sensor. This is done using the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) by setting the LearnFrontHitchPositionMin and LearnFrontHitchPositionMax values.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the Id7817h error code from the HYD module memory and test the front lifting operation to ensure the anomaly does not reappear.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Front Linkage Position Sensor / Front Lifting Position Sensor

Exact CLAAS OEM part numbers for the sensor vary heavily by specific chassis serial number. Look up the specific part number in the CLAAS Parts Doc catalog using the tractor's VIN/Serial Number.

  • Tractor front linkage position sensor rod

Often replaced if physically bent or snapped.
