CLAAS Id7818h / 7818h – HYD (A60): Short-circuit on the supply of the front lifting position sensor

Issue description

The system has detected an improper voltage level on the supply circuit, which is caused by either a faulty front hitch position sensor or a direct short-circuit on the sensor's power supply wiring harness.

Applies to these machines

  • Axion 800 series
  • Axion 810
  • Axion 820
  • Axion 830
  • Axion 840
  • Axion 850
  • Axion 900 series
  • Arion

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the supply harness of the front lifting position sensor for physical damage, rubbing, or pinched wires that could cause a short-circuit to ground or 12V.

  2. Verify the sources of energy (fuses, supply voltage, and ground) at the sensor connector using a multimeter.

  3. Check the component's internal resistance to determine if the sensor itself has shorted out internally.

  4. Note that the tractor will automatically return to normal operating mode once the correct voltage is restored, which can be used to verify the fix.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Safely park the machine, turn off the engine, and locate the front lifting position sensor on the front linkage assembly.

  2. Disconnect and Inspect

Unplug the sensor. Inspect the pins on both the sensor and the harness connector for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

  3. Wiring Test

With the sensor unplugged, turn the key on and test the harness for a short circuit. If the short is in the wiring, trace the harness back to the HYD (A60) module, repairing or replacing the damaged wire section.

  4. Replace Sensor

If the wiring tests good (proper voltage and no shorts), the position sensor has failed internally. Remove the mounting hardware and install the replacement sensor.

  5. Calibrate

Connect the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) / METADIAG tool. Clear the stored fault codes. You must perform a calibration routine for the new 'Front lifting position sensor' (found under the Calibration Values menu in the CDS) so the HYD module learns the new sensor's minimum and maximum travel limits.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Front Lifting Position Sensor / Front Hitch Position Sensor

Because CLAAS front linkages are sometimes factory-fitted units manufactured by third-party suppliers (like Sauter or Zuidberg), you must verify the exact part number with a CLAAS dealer using your tractor's specific VIN/Serial Number to ensure correct fitment.
