CLAAS Id7882h / 7882h – EXT (A62): EXT module no longer transmits any messages on the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus

Issue description

The EXT module no longer transmits any messages on the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus due to a number of CAN frame errors too high on the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus. The system shuts down the module's communication to prevent corrupted data from crashing the rest of the vehicle's network.

Applies to these machines

  • Axion 810
  • Axion 850
  • Axion 920
  • Axion 950
  • Axion 960
  • Arion 510
  • Arion 540

Check the cause

  1. Check the CLAAS vehicle CAN bus network for overarching network issues

  2. Verify the physical condition of the EXT (A62) module

  3. Inspect wiring and connections for short-circuits (to 12V or ground) or open circuits

  4. Verify fuses, power supply voltage, and ground connections feeding the EXT module

  5. Verify the compatibility of the program versions, settings, and calibration of the module

Repair steps

  1. Scan for Accompanying Codes

Check if other modules (like the BDG/A103 communication module or MFT/A30 Cebis terminal) are also reporting CAN bus faults (e.g., Id7880h, Id7881h). This helps isolate if the short is at the EXT module or elsewhere on the bus.

  2. Inspect the Harness

Visually and electrically inspect the CAN bus wiring harness leading to the EXT (A62) module. Use a multimeter to check for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

  3. Verify Power and Ground

Test the power supply pins and ground pins at the EXT module connector. Ensure the module is receiving stable 12V power and has a clean ground. Replace any blown fuses or repair damaged ground straps.

  4. Inspect Connectors

Disconnect the EXT module. Check the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent terminals. Clean with contact cleaner and reconnect securely.

  5. Software Calibration

If the wiring is intact, connect the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) to verify the software version of the EXT module. Reflash or recalibrate the module if a software corruption is suspected.

  6. Replace the Module

If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN bus lines test perfectly but the EXT module still fails to transmit messages, the internal CAN transceiver of the EXT module has likely failed. Replace the EXT (A62) module.
