CLAAS 7F00h – ECM: Engine Speed Confirmation and Memorization Issue

Issue description

The system is unable to confirm the memorization of engine speed, which may affect the proper operation of the engine control system. This occurs when the electronic system responsible for saving a desired engine RPM fails to verify that the requested speed has been successfully stored in the memory of the relevant control unit. Consequently, the operator is prevented from using pre-set engine speeds, which reduces operational efficiency.

Applies to these machines

  • Arion

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage is stable and within correct specifications, as low or unstable voltage can trigger communication errors.

  2. Check for other active faults using the CEBIS terminal or CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS). Address any CAN bus communication errors (such as 7CA0) first.

  3. Inspect the main electrical connectors at the A015 ECM for corrosion, moisture ingress, pushed-back pins, or physical damage to the wiring harness.

  4. Inspect the engine speed sensor(s) for physical damage, correct installation, and a clean, secure connection. Examine the wiring harness for chafing, melting, or breaks.

  5. Inspect accessible CAN bus network connectors for moisture or corrosion, which are common causes of secondary faults.

  6. Perform a resistance check on the Powertrain CAN bus with the battery disconnected. A healthy network should measure approximately 60 Ohms between CAN High and CAN Low. A reading of 120 Ohms indicates an open circuit or missing terminating resistor, while significantly lower than 60 Ohms suggests a short circuit.

  7. Test the engine speed sensor by checking its resistance (for magnetic pickup sensors) and comparing it to manufacturer specifications; an open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a faulty sensor. Then, use a multimeter to back-probe the signal wire and verify it generates a pulsing AC or DC voltage signal while cranking the engine.

Repair steps

  1. Reprogram ECM

If physical and electrical checks do not reveal a clear cause, the issue is likely software-related. Have a certified technician use the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) to reprogram the A015 ECM with the correct configuration file for the specific tractor model.

  2. Replace ECM

If reprogramming fails to resolve the fault, or if the ECM is unresponsive, replace the A015 ECM. The new module will require programming via the CDS to match the machine's configuration.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Engine Control Module (ECM)

Specific part number varies by machine model and year. Must be sourced through a CLAAS dealer using the machine's serial number.

  • Engine Speed Sensor

Varies by engine supplier (e.g., Caterpillar, Deutz, FPT). Must be sourced via a CLAAS parts catalog.
