CLAAS 7F08h – DBD MFA: MFA to Dashboard Communication Error

Issue description

A communication error has occurred on the vehicle's CAN bus between the MFA (A100) Multifunction Armrest module and the DBD MFA (A101) Dashboard module. The dashboard has not received a message from the armrest for more than 5 seconds, indicating a disruption or complete loss of the data link between these two essential components.

Applies to these machines

  • Axion 800
  • Axion 810
  • Axion 850
  • Lexion 580r
  • Lexion 700
  • Lexion 7000
  • Lexion 8000
  • Jaguar

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors between the MFA (A100) module and the DBD (A101) module for chafing, pinching, or rodent damage

  2. Check all related connectors for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or pushed-out pins

  3. Ensure all ground connections for the cab and electronic modules are clean, tight, and free of corrosion

  4. Verify that all fuses related to the armrest controls and dashboard are intact and that the modules are receiving the correct voltage (low battery voltage can cause communication errors)

  5. With vehicle power off, measure the resistance of the CAN bus network (a healthy CAN bus with two terminating resistors should measure approximately 60 ohms; 120 ohms suggests a missing terminator/break, and significantly lower indicates a short circuit)

Repair steps

  1. Address other fault codes

Analyze and address any other active fault codes first, as they may be the root cause of the communication error.

  2. Perform Diagnostic Checks

Follow the diagnostic checks listed above to rule out common wiring and connection issues.

  3. Isolate the fault

If wiring and connectors appear to be in good condition, disconnect other modules on the same CAN bus one at a time to see if the fault clears. This can indicate if another module is causing network interference.

  4. Reprogram module

Have a qualified technician attempt to reprogram the module using the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) to resolve software-level communication hangs.

  5. Replace MFA (A100) module

If all diagnostic steps have been exhausted and the fault persists, replace the MFA (A100) Multifunction Armrest module first, as it is the component failing to transmit data.

  6. Replace DBD (A101) module

If replacing the armrest module does not resolve the issue, replace the DBD (A101) Dashboard module.
