CLAAS A097h – HYD: 4th Hydraulic Valve Control Fault

Issue description

The electro-hydraulic control system has detected an improper movement or response from the 4th hydraulic valve. The valve fails to reach the float position within the expected time, or the internal spool moves in the wrong direction relative to the command. When this fault is triggered, the control module automatically returns the 4th valve to the neutral position to prevent unintended operation.

Applies to these machines

  • Arion 510
  • Arion 530
  • Arion 610
  • Arion 620
  • Arion 630
  • Arion 640
  • Arion 500 Series
  • Arion 600 Series
  • Axion 800 Series
  • Axion 900 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the 4th hydraulic valve and surrounding area for external hydraulic fluid leaks indicating a failed seal

  2. Check the electrical connector and wiring harness to the valve's solenoid for damage, corrosion, loose connections, or moisture ingress (moisture in CAN bus connectors is a known issue)

  3. Measure the voltage supplied to the valve's solenoid during commanded operation to verify the HYD control module is sending the signal

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is within manufacturer specifications (check for open or short circuits)

  5. If possible, use a diagnostic tool like the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS) to monitor the status of the valve and check for any other related fault codes

  6. If the valve is equipped with a manual override, carefully actuate it to determine if the valve spool is mechanically stuck or seized

  7. Inspect the condition and level of the hydraulic fluid for contamination or debris that could cause the valve spool to stick

  8. Check the system's hydraulic pressure to ensure it is within the specified operating range

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Fault Code

Attempt to clear the fault code using the tractor's control terminal or a diagnostic tool.

  2. Operate the Valve

Operate the hydraulic function associated with the 4th valve.

  3. Observe

If the fault code A097h (or IdA09Ch) reappears, the internal components of the valve are likely faulty.

  4. Valve Replacement

Replace the 4th hydraulic valve assembly. Ensure the hydraulic system is depressurized and follow all safety procedures. The new valve may need to be calibrated using the CLAAS Diagnostic System (CDS).
