CLAAS A0D1h – HYD (A60): 5 Valve

Issue description

The fault code indicates a malfunction in the operation of the 5th electro-hydraulic remote valve. The hydraulic control unit has detected that the valve is not responding as commanded, meaning the valve spool is not in the correct position based on the signal sent by the controller. This can be caused by an internal valve failure, an electrical signal issue, or a hydraulic problem preventing correct movement.

Applies to these machines

  • Arion 640
  • Arion 510
  • Arion
  • Axion

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to clear the error code via the control terminal (e.g., CEBIS) and operate the 5th valve again to see if the issue was intermittent.

  2. Visually inspect the 5th hydraulic valve block, its electrical connector, and the associated wiring harness for signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  3. Verify that the electrical connector to the valve solenoid is secure and the pins are clean. Check for power and ground at the solenoid connector when the valve is activated.

  4. Examine the valve and its connections for any hydraulic fluid leaks, which could indicate a failed seal.

  5. Check the overall hydraulic system fluid level and condition, as low or contaminated oil can cause erratic operation.

  6. Ensure the hydraulic system is not aerated (air in the system), which can cause jerky and incorrect movements.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Ensure the tractor is on level ground, the engine is off, and the parking brake is engaged. Relieve any residual pressure in the hydraulic system by operating the remote levers back and forth with the engine off.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify the 5th electro-hydraulic valve in the rear valve stack. It is typically color-coded or numbered.

  3. Disconnect

Carefully disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid on the 5th valve.

  4. Remove Hydraulic Lines

Mark the hydraulic lines to ensure correct reassembly. Place a drain pan underneath to catch any residual fluid and carefully disconnect the hydraulic lines from the valve section. Be prepared for some fluid spillage.

  5. Remove the Valve Section

The individual valve sections are typically held together by long bolts that run through the entire valve stack. Loosen and remove these bolts to allow for the removal of the faulty valve section.

  6. Install the New Valve

Install the new valve section, ensuring all seals and O-rings are correctly seated.

  7. Reassemble

Re-install the bolts for the valve stack and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque. Reconnect the hydraulic lines to their correct ports and reconnect the electrical connector.

  8. Test

Top off the hydraulic fluid level. Start the tractor and allow it to warm up. Operate the 5th remote valve to check for proper function and inspect for any leaks. Clear any stored fault codes.
