Deutz-Fahr 1131 – ECU (EMR4 / EDC17): SCR Reversing Valve Short Circuit to Battery
Issue description
The engine control unit (ECU) has detected a short circuit to the positive battery terminal in the electrical circuit of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) reversing valve, indicating voltage is above the normal operating range. The SCR reversing valve controls the direction of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) flow to purge the lines and dosing unit after engine shutdown, which prevents DEF from crystallizing or freezing and damaging the system.

- TCD 7.8
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the SCR reversing valve for chafed, melted, or pinched wires that could contact a power source.
Disconnect and inspect the electrical connector at the SCR reversing valve (or DEF pump/dosing unit) for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.
Check for DEF fluid inside the electrical connector, which strongly indicates an internal seal failure in the unit.
With the valve disconnected and ignition on, measure voltage on the signal/control wire from the ECU to check for a short to power (battery voltage indicates a short in the harness).
Perform continuity and resistance checks on the wiring harness to the ECU and between wires to isolate the short. Refer to the specific machine's wiring diagram for correct pinouts.
Repair steps
Isolate the fault
Perform electrical and visual diagnostic checks to determine if the short circuit is located in the wiring harness or internally within the reversing valve.
Repair wiring harness
If a short circuit is found in the wiring, repair the damaged section. Ensure the repair is sealed against moisture and protected from abrasion to prevent recurrence.
Replace SCR reversing valve or module
If the wiring is intact and diagnostics point to an internal fault or seal failure, replace the component. Note that the valve may be integrated into the DEF pump or dosing module, requiring replacement of the entire assembly.
Clear fault codes
Use a diagnostic tool to clear fault code 1131 from the engine ECU.
Verify repair
Start the engine and run for several minutes. Perform a key cycle (ignition off and on) to allow the SCR system to run its self-checks and purge cycle, then re-scan for codes to ensure the issue is resolved.
