Deutz-Fahr Code 56 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) - Deutz EMR4 (EDC17CV5x) or EMR3: Burner Control: Burner does not start after several trials (burner flame lost detection) / Burner flame unintentionally deleted.

The engine's active Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration system attempted to ignite the exhaust burner to burn off accumulated soot, but the flame either failed to ignite after multiple attempts or ignited and unexpectedly went out.

   Check for accompanying codes related to the Burner Air Pump (Code 55 / SPN 523910), Burner Dosing Valve DV2 (Codes 58-63 / SPN 523911), or the HFM/Air Mass sensor (SPN 524016) and fix these first

   Inspect the Burner Air Pump and Pressure Sensor (SPN 523919) to ensure the correct air-to-fuel ratio is achievable

   Check the Burner Dosing Valve (DV2) to ensure it is receiving power and is not physically clogged with carbon or soot

   Inspect the Glow Plug and ignition source by checking the resistance of the burner's glow plug and verifying its wiring harness is intact

   Check DPF Delta Pressure to verify the differential pressure sensor is reading correctly, as a completely face-plugged DPF can extinguish the burner flame with exhaust backpressure

   Visual Inspection

   Inspect the wiring harnesses connecting the Engine ECU to the DPF burner unit, dosing valve, and air pump. Look for melted wires or loose grounds.

   Live Data Monitoring

   Connect the DEUTZ SerDia diagnostic software (via DeCom interface). Monitor the burner air pump speed, dosing valve command, and exhaust temperatures during a forced 'Standstill Regeneration'.

   Fuel Supply Test

   Disconnect the fuel line at the burner dosing valve and verify that fuel is being delivered at the correct pressure when the system primes.

   Component Cleaning/Replacement

   If fuel is present but no ignition occurs, remove the burner nozzle/dosing valve and inspect for carbon buildup. Clean or replace the nozzle. Test the burner glow plug; replace if it fails a resistance check.

   Forced Regeneration

   After replacing the faulty component (e.g., dosing valve, glow plug, or air pump), use the SerDia tool to clear the fault codes and initiate a Service Regeneration to burn off the accumulated soot and verify the burner stays lit.
