Deutz-Fahr Code 57 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Deutz EMR4: Burner Control: Power reduction due to low lambda. Engine power; Not enough oxygen for regeneration.
Issue description
The engine management system has detected that there is insufficient oxygen (a "low lambda" condition) in the exhaust stream to safely and effectively ignite the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) burner for active regeneration. Because the DPF cannot regenerate, the system forces an engine power reduction (derate) to prevent excessive soot accumulation and potential thermal damage to the filter.

Check the cause
Check for Concurrent Codes: Look for related faults that cause low oxygen or burner failures, such as SPN 523910, SPN 524019, or SPN 524072 / 524073.
Inspect the Air Intake & Filter: A severely restricted engine air filter will lower overall exhaust oxygen levels. Check the air filter restriction indicator and intake piping.
Inspect Burner Air Lines: Check the dedicated air lines running from the DPF burner air pump to the burner nozzle for kinks, blockages, or leaks.
Test the DPF Burner Air Pump: Verify via active tests that the air pump is turning on and generating the correct pressure.
Check the Lambda/NOx Sensors: Inspect the upstream lambda/NOx sensor for heavy soot fouling, which can cause false 'low oxygen' readings.
Repair steps
Resolve Airflow Restrictions
Replace the engine air filter if clogged. Disconnect the DPF burner air lines and blow them out with compressed air to ensure they are completely clear of carbon buildup or debris.
Clean/Replace the Lambda Sensor
Remove the upstream lambda (NOx/O2) sensor located before the DPF/SCR assembly. If it is heavily caked in soot, clean it carefully with an appropriate solvent or replace it if it fails a diagnostic plausibility check.
Test the Burner Dosing Valve (DV2)
Ensure the fuel dosing valve is not stuck open, which would dump excess fuel into the burner and artificially lower the lambda (oxygen) ratio.
Perform a Forced Regeneration
Connect the SerDia diagnostic tool and initiate a stationary manual DPF regeneration. Monitor the live data for the burner air pump pressure and upstream lambda values.
Clear Codes
Once the regeneration completes successfully and the soot load is reduced, the ECU will verify the lambda values are back in range. Clear the fault codes to lift the engine derate.
