Deutz-Fahr I 01 – Instrument Panel (Infocenter): CAN-BUS Communication Timeout: Interrupted link with dashboard
Issue description
The CAN bus has failed to deliver messages between the dashboard and other control modules within the expected timeframe. When communication fails, coordination fails, and the machine protects itself—often resulting in missing display information, warning lights, or the tractor defaulting to a protective "limp home" or neutral state.

Check the cause
Check voltage and grounding for a weak battery, voltage drops during cranking, or poor/shared grounding.
Inspect the wiring harness behind the dashboard for chafed wiring, crushed harness sections, corroded connectors, loose pins, or water ingress.
Verify the Infocenter is receiving stable power to prevent module 'brown outs'.
Check the CAN network for missing or damaged terminating resistors.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to ensure safety and prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Module
Remove the necessary dashboard trim panels to access the rear of the Instrument Panel (Infocenter).
Inspect the Connection
Disconnect the main harness connector(s) from the Infocenter. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
Test Power and Ground
Reconnect the battery temporarily and use a multimeter to test the power supply and ground circuits at the dashboard connector. Repair any poor grounds or voltage drops.
Test CAN Lines
Disconnect the battery again. Perform a continuity test on the CAN High and CAN Low twisted-pair wires from the dashboard connector to the next node (e.g., the Engine ECU or Body Controller). Repair any broken or chafed wires.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked. Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on.
Module Replacement
If the wiring, power, grounds, and terminating resistors all test perfectly but the "I 01" code persists and the dashboard cannot communicate, the Infocenter itself likely has an internal CAN transceiver failure and must be replaced.
