I 34

Deutz-Fahr I 34 – Instrument Panel (Infocenter): Power output 1 short circuit to battery

Issue description

The Infocenter (Instrument Panel) has detected that the electrical circuit for "Power output 1" (which often feeds a specific relay, such as a PTO output or dash-controlled accessory) is shorted directly to the battery voltage (Vcc/Vdc). This means voltage is present on the circuit when the Infocenter is not commanding it, or the wiring has chafed and touched a live 12V wire.

Applies to these machines

  • 5-Series: 5090, 5100, 5110, 5120 C (LS and GS variants)
  • Virtus J: 90, 100, 110, 120
  • Agrotron Series: MK3, New, M, K, L
  • Agrofarm Series: 85, 100, 420, 430
  • Same Explorer/Iron
  • Lamborghini
  • Hürlimann

Check the cause

  1. Verify the code 'I 34' is active on the Infocenter display.

  2. Connect the SDF Analyser to the tractor's diagnostic port to read live data and pinpoint exactly which physical output pin corresponds to 'Power output 1' for your specific tractor configuration.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading into the back of the Infocenter. Look for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause the output wire to short against a constant 12V source.

  4. Disconnect the harness from the Infocenter. Using a multimeter, test the specific output wire for continuity to battery positive (12V). If voltage is present while disconnected from the dash, the short is in the chassis wiring.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent further electrical damage during testing.

  2. Access the Infocenter

Remove the steering column cowling and dashboard trim to access the rear of the Instrument Panel.

  3. Isolate the Short

Disconnect the main electrical connectors from the Infocenter. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or signs of arcing.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

Trace the 'Power output 1' wire from the dash harness to its destination (e.g., a relay block or solenoid). If you find a section where the wire has rubbed through and is touching a live wire, repair the wire using solder and heat shrink, and re-loom the harness.

  5. Address Internal Infocenter Failure

If the chassis wiring tests perfectly fine (no short to battery), the internal driver inside the Infocenter itself has likely failed (shorted internally). The Infocenter cannot be easily repaired in the field; it must be sent to an agricultural electronics specialist for board-level repair or replaced entirely.

  6. Reassembly and Clearing

Reconnect the Infocenter and battery. Turn the ignition on. If the fault was repaired, the code may move from 'Active' to 'Stored'. Clear the stored codes using the SDF Analyser.
