Deutz-Fahr I21 – Instrument Cluster / InfoCentre ECU or Transmission ECU: Frequency sensor 1 not connected

Issue description

The control unit is detecting an open circuit or a complete loss of signal from Frequency Sensor 1 (which functions as a speed or RPM sensor). Because the system cannot detect the sensor's presence, it triggers a Low priority alarm.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate Frequency Sensor 1 (typically mounted on the transmission housing, PTO output, or wheel hub depending on the specific tractor configuration). Inspect the wiring harness for breaks, chafing, or rodent damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the sensor and inspect the electrical connector. Look for corrosion, moisture, dirt, or backed-out pins that could cause an open circuit.

  3. Continuity/Resistance Test: Use a multimeter to test the sensor's internal resistance. An infinite reading (OL) confirms the sensor has failed internally (open circuit).

  4. Harness Test: Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the sensor connector back to the ECU to ensure the wire isn't broken somewhere in the chassis loom.
