Deutz-Fahr I22 – Instrument Cluster / Infocenter ECU: Frequency sensor 2 not connected
Issue description
The system has detected an open circuit, missing signal, or disconnected wiring at the second frequency sensor.

Check the cause
Perform a key cycle test: Turn the starter key to the OFF position, then back to ON to check if the alarm is still present to rule out a temporary software glitch.
Locate Frequency Sensor 2 on your specific model (commonly located on the transmission housing or PTO output shaft).
Visually inspect the sensor's wiring harness for cuts, chafing, or broken wires that would cause an open circuit.
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, dirt, or pushed-out pins.
Use a multimeter to test the sensor's internal resistance. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates the sensor has failed internally.
Check the continuity of the wiring from the sensor connector back to the Instrument Cluster ECU harness to ensure there is no break in the line.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn the ignition off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the electrical system to prevent short circuits.
Access the Sensor
Clean the area around Frequency Sensor 2 to prevent dirt from entering the housing when the sensor is removed.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness, repair the wire using appropriate automotive-grade wire and heat-shrink tubing, or replace the damaged harness section.
Sensor Replacement
If the sensor itself is faulty, disconnect the electrical connector.
Remove Sensor
Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor straight out of its mounting bore.
Lubricate O-ring
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with a thin film of clean oil.
Install Sensor
Insert the new sensor into the bore and tighten the retaining bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnect Connector
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely into place.
Reassembly & Clearing
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position. The code may clear itself upon detecting the connected sensor. If not, use an SDF Analyser diagnostic tool (or equivalent like Jaltest/Serdia) to clear the stored I22 fault code from the Instrument ECU.
