Deutz-Fahr I38 – Transmission ECU / Hydraulic Shuttle controller: Seat sensor cc GND / Seat sensor S.C. to earth
Issue description
The electronic control unit has detected a short circuit to ground (earth) in the operator presence sensor (seat switch) circuit. This means the signal wire from the seat sensor is making direct contact with a ground source, or the switch itself has failed internally in a shorted state.

Check the cause
Safety First: Place the machine on a flat surface, chock the wheels, turn off the engine, remove the ignition key, and relieve any hydraulic pressure.
Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the seat base to the main cab harness. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the seat suspension mechanism, or exposed insulation that could be grounding out against the metal seat frame.
Isolate the Short: Disconnect the seat sensor connector. Use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the harness side. If the short to ground is still present with the sensor unplugged, the wiring harness is damaged and needs repair. If the short disappears, the seat sensor switch itself is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Connector Check: Inspect the connector plug for water ingress, dirt, or corrosion that could be bridging the pins to ground.
Repair steps
Ensure tractor is powered off
Ensure the tractor is powered off and the key is removed.
Locate operator presence switch
Locate the operator presence switch, which is typically mounted under the bottom seat cushion or integrated into the seat suspension base (often a Grammer or Cobo seat).
Disconnect electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the seat switch.
Repair damaged wire
If the wiring harness was found to be pinched or chafed during diagnostics, repair the damaged wire using heat-shrink connectors and re-route it safely away from moving suspension parts.
Remove faulty sensor
If the sensor is faulty, unbolt or unclip the old magnetic seat switch from its mounting bracket.
Install new sensor
Install the new seat sensor switch and secure it in place.
Reconnect electrical connector
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Verify repair
Turn the ignition key to the ON position and verify that the I38 fault code clears from the INFOCENTER display and that the seat presence indicator functions correctly when weight is applied to the seat.
