Deutz-Fahr I40 – Instrument Panel / Infocenter (ART): Seat sensor out of range

A medium-priority alarm indicating that the control module is receiving an implausible electrical signal from the operator presence switch (seat sensor). The voltage is either outside the expected parameters (too high/too low), or there is an open/short circuit.

   Physical Obstruction Check: Check behind and underneath the seat for tools, heavy coats, or debris (like branches or dirt) wedged in the suspension.

   Weight/Suspension Adjustment: Ensure the seat suspension is adjusted correctly for the operator's weight.

   Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading from the cab floor to the seat for chafing, pinching, or pulling out of their connectors.

   Electrical Testing: Disconnect the seat switch harness and use a digital multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the switch tests fine, check the tractor-side harness for proper reference voltage and ground.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the ignition key.

   Ensure the tractor is safely parked before beginning repairs.

   Depending on the seat model, either tilt the seat assembly forward or remove the bottom seat cushion to access the suspension mechanism and the safety switch.

   Gain access to the seat switch.

   Clean the area around the switch thoroughly to ensure dirt isn't causing the new switch to bind.

   Remove any debris that could interfere with the switch operation.

   Disconnect the electrical plug from the faulty seat switch.

   Unplug the harness from the switch.

   Unbolt or unclip the seat switch from its mounting bracket on the suspension frame.

   Note: Some magnetic switches simply slide out of a retaining slot.

   Install the new OEM seat switch into the bracket and secure it.

   Mount the replacement switch.

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness, ensuring the plug clicks firmly into place and the wire is routed away from moving suspension pinch points.

   Restore electrical connection and secure wiring.

   Sit in the seat, turn the ignition key to the ON position, and verify that the I40 fault code has cleared from the Infocenter display.

   Test the new switch to ensure the fault is resolved.
